The Shady Lady

We are all looking for ways to work smarter rather than harder and the FX business seems a good way of making a few bob.

However, who wants to sit in front of a PC screen for hours (or days/weeks) on end looking at charts and  FX data? Not me.

Like many activities, you have to wait patiently for an opportunity, maintain concentration and be good enough to take the chance.

Pretend your're a top class cricketer playing in a test match on a hot day, your opponents are at the crease and their two best batsmen are building a record stand. As a fielder you will be hot, tired, thirsty and frustrated but you have to concentrate because a chance might come your way and the criticism will be scathing if a catch is dropped.

Maybe a team of robots could take the place of the fielding side? Most unlikely.

In FX trading, I have developed a few systems which seem to be quite profitable in the long term.

It's just a question of following instructions and opening/closing trades according to a set of rules.

Unfortunately, it does involve sitting in front a PC for hours on end and it is very easy to lose concentration, get bored/distracted/frustrated, let your emotions run away with themselves so that you miss the opportunity you have been waiting patiently for!

Maybe a robot could do a better job than you at following instructions without getting bored/frustrated/emotional...etc?

Actually it could and a FX robot is called an Expert Adviser or EA for short.

I intend to develop and test some Expert Advisers starting with The Shady Lady

Maybe I should use an Expert Adviser?

An Expert Adviser (also known as an EA) is a program that will automatically follow a set of instructions once certain criteria have been met.
Anybody who already has a mechanical trading system could create an EA and use it to carry out the appropriate actions each time a signal is received.
This could be called “automated trading” because the trader doesn't even have to be present.
This is particularly useful for people who don't want to sit in front of a screen all day or just don’t have the time.
Maybe I should use an Expert Adviser?

Sell in May and Go Away?...Yes Definitely!!!

I have previously speculated upon the old stock market saying

"Sell in May and Go Away"

which can be interpreted in different ways and can be self fulfilling.

Is it relevant to FX trading?

Is it best to quit in May, go on holiday and return in September?

I promised to investigate and the results are quite conclusive

Profits Sept 2016 - May 2017 = 510 pips

Profits Jun - July 2017 = -395

Based on this evidence...without a doubt...definitely - Sell in May and Go Away!!!

Sell in May and Go Away?

"Sell in May and Go Away" is an old saying, most frequently applied to the stock market.

It can be interpreted in different ways and can be self fulfilling but is it relevant to FX trading?

Is it best to quit in May, go on holiday and return in September?

I don't know but I will continue this year and investigate.

Profits Sept - Dec 2016 = 940

Profits Jan - May 2017 = -430

Year to date Profits including May 2017 = 510 pips
